Release sample controls

What they do

Each version of Garritan Abbey Road Studios CFX Lite includes a set of release samples, which adds the sound a damper creates as it mutes the piano strings. Release samples are triggered at the appropriate time and volume when you release a key (when your MIDI controller sends a note off message), and are a crucial part of creating a realistic sampled piano.

Example: You're recording a very fast, very dense passage in your project, so in order to get a very short staccato sound from the piano, you turn the Room/Release Decay knob and the Release Crossfade knob down until you get the definition from each individual note that you need.

The Room/Release Decay knob controls the length of the decay of the release sample, the Room/Release Volume knob controls the volume of the release samples, and the Release Crossfade knob controls the severity of the crossfade between the decay of the original note sample and the attack of the release sample.

To change the sound of the release samples

  1. Click the Piano button. The Piano view appears.
  2. AdjustClick and drag the knob up or right to increase and down or left to decrease. the Room/Release Decay knob, the Room/Release Volume knob, and the Release Crossfade knob until you get the desired sound from your releases.
