Ambient Pre-Delay

What it does

Example: The space that you've imagined for your project is a large church, where not only is there a lot of reverb, but a strong first reflection from the space. After finding the right convolution reverb preset, you provide a strong first reflection by turning up the Amb. Pre-Delay knob, and then by turning down the ambient mic volume to recreate the church that you've imagined.

The ambient pre-delay is a simple delay for the ambient mics. When it's used, all of the ambient mic signal is fed through this delay (100% wet), causing the signal from the ambient microphones to sound later.

Essentially, this allows you to set the room size by changing the perceived distance of the ambient mics from the piano. The higher the ambient pre-delay, the larger the perceived room size.

To change the ambient pre-delay

1. Click the Studio button. The Studio view appears.

2. Adjust the Amb Pre-Delay knob until the ambient mics sound the desired amount of time after the close mics.

   Note that in order to use ambient pre-delay, you must be using a 4-channel version of the instrument. The Notation version, unlike the other versions, is a 2-channel instrument.
